Jerusalem, April 12 (IANS) Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant has vowed an “applicable response” if Iran assaults his nation’s territory.
“A direct Iranian assault on Israeli territory would require an applicable Israeli response towards Iran,” Gallant instructed US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin on Thursday throughout a cellphone dialog on preparations for a potential Iranian retaliatory assault, Xinhua information company reported.
In the course of the dialog, Gallant detailed the Israeli preparations and emphasised that Israel “won’t tolerate an Iranian assault on its territory”.
It was the second time the 2 officers had talked over the previous week.
The US Intelligence officers have assessed that Iran may launch a counter-attack quickly in response to the killing of seven Iranians in an Israeli airstrike on Iran’s consulate in Syria on April 1.
Earlier on Thursday, Commander of the US Central Command Michael Kurilla arrived in Israel for talks with Gallant and Herzi Halevi, the Chief of the Basic Workers of the Israel Protection Forces, to coordinate responses to a possible Iranian assault.
